Meet the Team: Jamie Papp

At U.S. HealthTek, the focus is on customer service and being excited about the solutions available. “You start to lose that excitement when you start thinking about financial resources all the time,” says Jamie Papp, Vice President of Sales and Marketing. He appreciates the nimble team U.S. HealthTek has assembled, as well as the commitment to problem-solving. “When you solve problems, you make clients happy – and that’s a good feeling.”

Entrepreneurial Spirit

Papp grew up in New Jersey, and right out of high school he was enamored with technology, sales, and customer service. That fascination with technology quickly became more than a hobby. “I was on the beta test team for companies like Nvidia for over 15 years,” he says, citing just one example.

From an early age, he also had an entrepreneurial spirit. He worked with clothier Marc Ecko, an urban-wear creator, creating t-shirts and silk screens at the age of 16. Also, while still a teen he went into the lucrative cell phone industry providing corporate installations while working for Cingular Wireless.

Next was his entry into the automotive industry at a dealership serving the tristate area. There he quickly rose to sales management, where he also handled business development and marketing. This experience would shape the rest of his career as it was here where he became concerned about the state of customer service – or the lack thereof. “I realized that for too many people buying a car was a terrible experience, and I wanted to create a better one.” Related, he also set about improving training programs.

Into IT

A decade into that successful career, he had the opportunity to return to his first passion, technology. He had a friend working at ELLKAY during their innovation period, and Papp started there in 2008. He relished the opportunity to learn about healthcare. That opportunity led to a conclusion most of the industry knows: “It’s one of the most discombobulated industries I’ve ever seen. Other industries can figure out ways to connect their internal IT systems much easier than healthcare. The lack of interoperability was surprising to me – and still is.”

They wanted him to start off strictly in sales, but being technically inclined, Papp wanted to work on the implementations of their systems. “I needed to understand what I was selling.” He did that for three years before becoming a sales leader, and once there he saw his role as helping to manage customers interoperability needs. He again was confronted with a system that did not serve the laboratory customers well. He saw that sales reps were disconnected from the technical process and the IT team who did that work. “I was always trying to connect the dots, to make a smoother process for everyone involved.”

Papp would rise to Senior Sales Director at ELLKAY and served in that position for 15 years. In 2022, he went to Gestalt, a digital pathology solution company that specializes in digital slides and AI-driven diagnostics and workflows. There he learned about that emerging technology and used it to produce quicker, more efficient diagnostics turnaround.

But he was still looking for something more. Interoperability. Liberating data. Interfaces for today’s world. Better use of digital pathology. “These are the issues that U.S. HealthTek has solutions for; and for me personally, they offered an opportunity for me to combine skills and experiences learned at both ELLKAY and Gestalt.” He welcomed the invitation to join the team in September 2024.

In the category of “it’s always the simple things,” Papp is a big proponent of simply picking up the phone. “Good communication cannot be taken for granted. I’m here to help and identify any problems and get going on a solution. A sales person with a complete understanding of the technology and the team to stand behind a contract always translates to better service.”

Papp, who attends many conferences and industry gatherings, has a better understanding than most of the industry’s challenges. “Healthcare systems need more efficiency – whether they are connecting with data, sharing data, connecting systems, or creating greater interoperability.” And this is the never-ending quest that U.S. HealthTek is vigilant about. “Even with all the new technology, even with AI, it’s still a bit of the wild west in too many situations. I’m here to make clear it doesn’t have to be that way.”

Papp, based in the L.A. area, appreciates how his home life keeps him grounded. He has six animals including two chinchillas; two parrots; two dogs; and most importantly, a 16-year-old daughter he spends as much time as possible with. He is an avid hiker and quite the accomplished skateboarder – so don’t be surprised if you see him at a skating park.
